Phaneromenis 70 – Locomotion Box

"Places and landscapes"

​

The exhibited artworks deal with a chapter of some small and very small artworks, deriving from my personal need to explore the procedure of writing as a process in painting and drawing. Through techniques of drawing and redrawing, and by giving space in the pleasure of the process, I re-approached fragments of previous artworks, without a clear expectation of what the result should be.

Sophia Papacosta was born in Nicosia in 1985. She lives and works in Athens. She studied Painting at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts at the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, graduating in 2008. In 2010 she completed her postgraduate studies in Sequential Design & Illustration at the University of Brighton. Her work has been exhibited in two solo and several group exhibitions. Sophia also participated in Phaneromenis 70 Topophilia Workshop, and submitted her photography work "Local Stranger" for the respective Publication titled "Delivering Views ch.20: Topophilia".

"Τόποι και τοπία"

​

Τα έργα που παρουσιάζονται αποτελούν μια ενότητα μικρών και πολύ μικρών έργων, που προέκυψε μέσα από την ανάγκη διερεύνησης της γραφής ως ζωγραφικής διαδικασίας. Μέσα από τεχνικές γραφής και επανεγγραφής και δίνοντας χώρο στην απόλαυση της ίδιας της διαδικασίας, επεξεργάστηκα εκ νέου θραύσματα παλαιότερων έργων, χωρίς την προσδοκία του αποτελέσματος.

H Σοφία Παπακώστα γεννήθηκε στη Λευκωσία το 1985. Ζει και εργάζεται στην Αθήνα. Σπούδασε Ζωγραφική στο Τμήμα Εικαστικών και Εφαρμοσμένων Τεχνών στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης, από όπου αποφοίτησε το 2008. Το 2010 ολοκλήρωσε τις μεταπτυχιακές της σπουδές στο Illustration & Sequential Design στο University of Brighton. Η δουλειά της έχει εκτεθεί σε ατομικές και ομαδικές εκθέσεις. Η Σοφία συμμετείχε στο ομαδικό πρότζεκτ και εργαστήρι "Τοποφίλια", του ιδρύματος Φανερωμένης 70, για το οποίο παρέδωσε μία σειρά φωτογραφιών που εκδόθηκαν μαζί με το υλικό των υπόλοιπων συμμετεχόντων στο αντίστοιχο βιβλίο, με τίτλο "Delivering Views ch.20: Topophilia".
