For its 24th chapter of Delivering Views – Delivering Texts, Phaneromenis 70 Cultural Foundation is collaborating with the University of Nicosia, delivering to you the unique viewpoints of 8 Documentary Photography Erasmus students, under the supervision of Nicos Philippou. This semester, their topics varied from highly political issues like the controversial development of high-rise buildings on Limassol’s coastline, animal welfare and the environment to aspects of culture like the aesthetics of tourism, the architectural character of Nicosia’s suburbia and the overwhelming presence of signs in the urban space as well as very personal subjects like cohabitation with a quirky flat mate. A sample of this work is presented in this beautiful publication, which is part of a long series of chapters in the Delivering Views Project of Phaneromenis 70. This project has over the years provided a great platform for showcasing fresh and unique views of Cypriot culture and society.

Phaneromenis 70

Cultural and Research foundation Phaneromenis 70 was founded by artist Kyriaki Costa. It is an art center housed in the historic center of Nicosia. The main goals of the institution are aligned with the research field of social studies of ‘place’ and tourism.

 

The project

‘Delivering Views-Delivering Texts’ of the Cultural Centre Phaneromenis 70 is based on exchanges of images and texts focused on Nicosia and Cyprus. In recent years we collect photos and texts made by tourists who visited Cyprus, which help us achieve a new approach and interpretation of our hometown through the foreigner’s look. The archive material compiled is periodically delivered to editors, intellectuals or artists, so that they comment by choice on anything that moves them. Our ambition is to stimulate the senses, the emotions and thoughts through the circulation of images and ideas, so as to start a new conversation on things that we –on our move- miss.

Για το 24ο κεφάλαιο του Delivering Views – Delivering Texts, το πολιτιστικό ίδρυμα Φανερωμένης 70 συνεργάζεται με το Πανεπιστήμιο Λευκωσίας, παρουσιάζοντάς σας τις ξεχωριστές οπτικές από οκτώ Erasmus φοιτήτριες του Documentary Photography, υπό την εποπτεία του Νίκου Φιλίππου. Για αυτό το κεφάλαιο, οι θεματικές τους ποικίλουν ανάμεσα σε φλέγοντα πολιτικά ζητήματα όπως η αμφιλεγόμενη ραγδαία ανάπτυξη των ψηλών ουρανοξυστών στην ακτογραμμή του κόλπου της Λεμεσού, στην ευημερία των ζώων και του περιβάλλοντος, σε στοιχεία του πολιτισμού όπως η τουριστική αισθητική, ο αρχιτεκτονικός χαρακτήρας του αστικού περιβάλλοντος της Λευκωσίας και η συντριπτική παρουσία ξεχωριστών στοιχείων στο αστικό περιβάλλον, αλλά ακόμα και σε πολύ προσωπικές στιγμές, όπως η συμβίωση με έναν ιδιαίτερο, αντισυμβατικό συγκάτοικο. Ένα δείγμα αυτής της δουλειάς παρουσιάζεται σε αυτή την όμορφη έκδοση, η οποία αποτελεί κομμάτι μίας συνεχούς σειράς κεφαλαίων του προγράμματος Delivering Views, από τη Φανερωμένης 70. Τα τελευταία χρόνια, αυτό το πρόγραμμα έχει αποτελέσει μία σημαντική πλατφόρμα για την ανάδειξη ξεχωριστών και ιδιαίτερων οπτικών ματιών της κυπριακής κουλτούρας και κοινωνίας.
