Create II combined typography and collage to explore personal experiences through visual language. The workshop invited participants to reflect on their relationship with Cyprus and translate this reflection into a creative artwork centred around a single meaningful word.
The session began with a guided reflection exercise. Through questions and prompts, participants considered their experiences on the island and searched for a word that best represented their feelings, memories, or personal journey. This word became the conceptual foundation of their artwork.
Participants then created handmade typographic compositions using a wide range of materials, including wire, thread, tape, paper, aluminium foil, clay, and found objects. The process encouraged experimentation and allowed participants to discover different ways of expressing meaning through form, texture, and composition.
Once the typographic element was completed, participants expanded their work through collage. Using materials gathered during previous workshops or collected from everyday life, they created visual compositions that connected to the chosen word and its personal significance. The resulting artworks combined text and image, creating layered representations of identity, memory, and lived experience.
