This Christmas, Phaneromenis 70 is wrapping the year up with one of its most special programmes, that will make you look at Cyprus through a different lens. Our ongoing sociological/cultural programme “Delivering Views – Delivering Texts” is continuing with the publication of issue no. #28, titled:

“Aes Cyprium; Some time, Today, Tomorrow and Always” by Demetrios K. Constantinidis

Cyprus is home to some of the world's richest copper ore reserves. Since at least the second millennium BC, they have been intensively used. Copper production and trade, as well as the wealth generated by it, have long been the backbone of the island's economy, as evidenced by the fact that the Troodos copper mines were reopened in the twentieth century AD, after a thousand-year hiatus. But is copper only a mere timestamp in the history of the island, or is it a much more important element that solidifies the identity of Cyprus? Come to our book presentation and find out how Cypriot copper has changed and can change our lives, and how it has made a significant impact in the historical, sociological, environmental and cultural agenda of the world.

The book presentation will take place, abiding by the safety measurements issued by the government, on (29.12 / 5-8 p.m.), in our Cultural Centre, Phaneromenis 70.

 

Delivering Views – Delivering Texts

​

The current project ‘Delivering Views-Delivering Texts’ of the Cultural Centre Phaneromenis 70 is based on exchanges of images and texts focused on Nicosia and Cyprus. In recent years, we've been collecting photos and texts sent to us by tourists who visited Cyprus, which help us achieve a new approach and interpretation of our hometown through the foreigner’s point of view. The archive material compiled is periodically delivered to editors, intellectuals or artists, so that they comment by choice on anything that moves them. Our ambition is to stimulate the senses, the emotions and thoughts through the circulation of images and ideas, so as to start a new conversation on things that we – through our own movements – miss or don't register.

Φέτος τα Χριστούγεννα, η Φανερωμένης 70 «κλείνει» τη χρονιά με ένα από τα πιο ιδιαίτερα προγράμματα της, που θα σας κάνει να δείτε την Κύπρο μέσα από μια διαφορετική ματιά. «Aes Cyprium; Κάποτε, σήμερα, αύριο και πάντα» του Δημήτριος Κ. Κωνσταντινίδη

Η Κύπρος είναι σπίτι για μερικά από τα πλουσιότερα αποθέματα μεταλλεύματος χαλκού στον κόσμο. Τουλάχιστον από τη δεύτερη χιλιετία π.Χ., αυτά τα μεταλλεύματα χρησιμοποιούνται συστηματικά. Η παραγωγή και το εμπόριο χαλκού, καθώς και ο πλούτος που παρήγαγε, ήταν από καιρό η ραχοκοκαλιά της οικονομίας του νησιού, όπως αποδεικνύεται από το γεγονός ότι τα ορυχεία χαλκού του Τροόδους άνοιξαν ξανά τον 20ο αιώνα μ.Χ., μετά από χίλια χρόνια παύσης. Είναι όμως ο χαλκός απλά μία χρονική σήμανση στην ιστορία του νησιού ή είναι ένα πολύ πιο σημαντικό στοιχείο που εδραιώνει την ταυτότητα της Κύπρου; Ελάτε στην παρουσίαση του βιβλίου μας και μάθετε πώς ο κυπριακός χαλκός έχει αλλάξει και μπορεί να αλλάξει τη ζωή μας και πώς κατάφερε να έχει σημαντικό αντίκτυπο στην ιστορική, κοινωνιολογική, περιβαλλοντική και πολιτιστική ατζέντα του κόσμου.

Η παρουσίαση του βιβλίου θα γίνει, τηρώντας τα μέτρα ασφαλείας που έχουν εκδοθεί από την κυβέρνηση, στις (29.12 / 5-8 μ.μ.), στο Πολιτιστικό μας Κέντρο, Φανερωμένης 70.

 

Delivering Views – Delivering Texts

Το συνεχές πρόγραμμα «Delivering Views – Delivering Texts» του Πολιτιστικού Κέντρου Φανερωμένης 70 βασίζεται σε ανταλλαγές εικόνων και κειμένων με επίκεντρο τη Λευκωσία και την Κύπρο. Τα τελευταία χρόνια, συλλέγουμε φωτογραφίες και κείμενα που μας στέλνουν τουρίστες που επισκέφθηκαν την Κύπρο, τα οποία μας βοηθούν να επιτύχουμε μια νέα προσέγγιση και ερμηνεία της χώρας, μέσα από τη ματιά του άλλου. Το αρχειακό υλικό που συντάσσεται παραδίδεται περιοδικά σε συντάκτες, διανοούμενους ή καλλιτέχνες, ώστε να σχολιάζουν κατ' επιλογή οτιδήποτε τους συγκινεί. Φιλοδοξία μας είναι να διεγείρουμε τις αισθήσεις, τα συναισθήματα και τις σκέψεις μέσω της ανταλλαγής εικόνων και ιδεών, ώστε να ξεκινήσουμε μια νέα συζήτηση για πράγματα που –στην πορεία μας– χάνουμε.

Ελάτε να κάνουμε μαζί μια βόλτα στο νησί μέσα από τις εικόνες και τα κείμενα των περιπλανώμενων μας!
