Delivering Views – Delivering Texts
The current project ‘Delivering Views-Delivering Texts’ of the Cultural Centre Phaneromenis 70 is based on exchanges of images and texts focused on Nicosia and Cyprus. In recent years, we've been collecting photos and texts sent to us by tourists who visited Cyprus, which help us achieve a new approach and interpretation of our hometown through the foreigner’s point of view. The archive material compiled is periodically delivered to editors, intellectuals or artists, so that they comment by choice on anything that moves them. Our ambition is to stimulate the senses, the emotions and thoughts through the circulation of images and ideas, so as to start a new conversation on things that we – through our own movements – miss or don't register.
We are waiting for you to take a walk around the island through the images and texts of our wanderers!

 

Janan Alexandra was born in Nicosia, Cyprus to a Lebanese mother and an American father. She recently completed her MFA in poetry at Indiana University and has returned to Cyprus as a creative research Fulbright scholar to work on her first full length poetry manuscript. As a queer poet of the Arab diaspora, janan's work often looks deeply at questions of identity, belonging, memory, and heritage. She has received support from the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, the Martha's Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing, and the Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets. In addition to writing poetry and essays, janan teaches creative writing and plays the violin in a folk duo called Sweet May Dews. Harrison Blackman was born in Southern California and grew up in the Washington, DC area. He studied history at Princeton University before completing an MFA in fiction at the University of Nevada, Reno. A Fulbright fellow to Cyprus, Harrison’s work has also been supported by grants from the Lewis Center for the Arts and the Truman Library Institute. His writing often explores urban history and the history of the Mediterranean through the prism of mystery and suspense. His work has appeared in such publications as The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Brooklyn Rail, Literary Hub, The Santa Fe New Mexican, and Ploughshares; he also consults on film and TV projects. Caroline Sager grew up in North Carolina and attended Appalachian State University, where she graduated with degrees in Linguistics and International Relations. As a Fulbright English Teaching Fellow at Pancyprian High School in Nicosia, she has had the chance to share her passion for language learning and create images that celebrate the beauty and idiosyncrasies of Cyprus.

Delivering Views – Delivering Texts
Το συνεχές πρόγραμμα «Delivering Views – Delivering Texts» του Πολιτιστικού Κέντρου Φανερωμένης 70 βασίζεται σε ανταλλαγές εικόνων και κειμένων με επίκεντρο τη Λευκωσία και την Κύπρο. Τα τελευταία χρόνια, συλλέγουμε φωτογραφίες και κείμενα που μας στέλνουν τουρίστες που επισκέφθηκαν την Κύπρο, τα οποία μας βοηθούν να επιτύχουμε μια νέα προσέγγιση και ερμηνεία της χώρας, μέσα από τη ματιά του άλλου. Το αρχειακό υλικό που συντάσσεται παραδίδεται περιοδικά σε συντάκτες, διανοούμενους ή καλλιτέχνες, ώστε να σχολιάζουν κατ' επιλογή οτιδήποτε τους συγκινεί. Φιλοδοξία μας είναι να διεγείρουμε τις αισθήσεις, τα συναισθήματα και τις σκέψεις μέσω της ανταλλαγής εικόνων και ιδεών, ώστε να ξεκινήσουμε μια νέα συζήτηση για στοιχεία που –στην πορεία μας– χάνουμε.
Ελάτε να κάνουμε μαζί μια βόλτα στο νησί μέσα από τις εικόνες και τα κείμενα των περιπλανώμενων μας!

Η janan alexandra γεννήθηκε στην Λευκωσία, στην Κύπρο, από μητέρα Λιβανέζα και πατέρα Αμερικάνο. Ολοκλήρωσε πρόσφατα το μεταπτυχιακό της στην ποίηση στο πανεπιστήμιο Indiana και επέστρεψε στην Κύπρο ως ερευνήτρια υπότροφος Fulbright για να εργαστεί στην πρώτη της μεγάλη ποιητική συλλογή. Ως ποιήτρια του ρεύματος queer της Αραβικής διασποράς, το έργο της janan συχνά εμβαθύνει σε ερωτήματα για την ταυτότητα, στο πού ανήκει, για την μνήμη και για την κληρονομιά. Έχει λάβει την στήριξη των Province town Fine Arts Work Center, Martha's Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing και του Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets. Delivering Views – Delivering Texts
Le programme « Delivering Views – Delivering Texts» du centre culturel Phaneromenis 70 est fondé sur l’échange des images et des textes, centré autour de Nicosie et Chypre. Les dernières années nous collectons des photos et des textes, envoyés par des touristes qui ont visité Chypre, et qui nous aident à parvenir à une nouvelle approche et interprétation du pays, à travers les yeux de l’autre. Notre ambition est de réveiller les sens, les sentiments et les pensées à travers l’échange d’images et des idées, afin de commencer une nouvelle discussion sur des aspects que, pendant notre chemin, nous perdons.

janan alexandra est né à Nicosie, à Chypre, d’une mère libanaise et d’un père chypriote. Elle a obtenu récemment son MFA en poésie à l’université d’Indiana et elle est revenue à Chypre comme une chercheuse créative de la bourse Fulbright afin de travailler sur son premier long-métrage de poésie. En tant que poétesse queer de la diaspora arabe, le travail de janan semble profonde et riche sur les question d’identité, d’appartenance, de mémoire et d’héritage. Elle a reçu le soutien du Centre Provincetown Fine Arts Work, de Martha’s Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing, et de Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets. Au-delà de l’écriture de poésie et des essais, janan enseigne l’écriture créative et joue du violon dans un duo folk appelé Sweet May Dews.
