Project Description
Wandering & Wondering is a collaborative workshop series and artistic project that explores Cyprus as a temporary home through collective artistic practices, conversations, observation, writing, movement, and creative expression.
Cyprus is a temporary home to people from various backgrounds. Refugees, volunteers, researchers, Erasmus students, migrants, returning Cypriots, and people who arrived on the island for completely different reasons often share the same spaces while experiencing Cyprus in very different ways.
Connecting or reconnecting with the island does not always happen consciously. Navigating a foreign environment can feel confusing, temporary, isolating, or transformative. Through the workshops, participants are invited to reflect on their relationship with Cyprus, their sense of belonging, and the way daily life on the island shapes their identity, emotions, memories, and perspectives.
The project focuses on both shared and individual experiences of living in Cyprus. Some people arrive for a short period of time, while for others the experience feels open-ended or uncertain. In each case, perception is shaped by the interaction between the participant and the environment around them.
Through walking, writing, collage, photography, movement, and collective creation, Wandering & Wondering creates spaces for conversation and reflection around questions such as:
How is a place perceived through passage?
What narratives exist around life in Cyprus?
How do different communities experience the island?
How do we connect to a place that may not fully feel like home?
The project started with four workshops developed during Irini Georgiades’ artistic residency in collaboration with Tune In. After the first exhibition and collective outcomes, the project continued with four additional workshops organised by Tune In, expanding the themes and artistic practices explored during the first phase.
Together, both parts form one continuous project made up of eight workshops and collective outcomes.
At the same time, the project also aims to make art more accessible by using simple materials, collective participation, and everyday spaces as tools for creative expression and social connection.
About the Collaboration
Wandering & Wondering was developed through the collaboration between Irini Georgiades, Tune In, and different artists and facilitators involved in the project.
